“Even in tough times, it’s rewarding to give something back to society”
On Call Carpets, established in 1999, is a local, family-run business that prides itself on customer care. We were therefore delighted to take part in a recent episode of the BBC’s DIY SOS programme.
Our name was put forward by our local business networking group, ‘Business over Breakfast’ as they’d heard that the programme was looking for local, reliable companies who were interested in contributing their services to a worthy community initiative.
The programme was aiming to transform the home of a struggling army veteran and his family in Maidstone. We were particularly pleased to be part of an initiative to help one of our brave servicemen who sacrifice so much for our country. Our contribution was to help to improve the family’s quality of life by providing and fitting attractive, quality and durable flooring.
On Call Carpets supplied and fitted a bleach cleanable twist carpet to the family’s three bedrooms, landing and stairs, plus a domestic vinyl to their bathroom. We were really impressed with the DIY SOS team, who ran an efficient and professional programme, managing to renew every part of the house in just ten days! All the trades involved worked well together, successfully keeping within the small time slots that we each had to complete our parts of the transformation. The “site banter” between the tradesmen and the builder/celebrities made it very enjoyable! All the cast were very friendly and appreciative of the companies who had donated their time and materials.
For those of you familiar with the show, “Billy” really is a very funny guy and the butt of everyone’s jokes, while Nick Knowles manages to stay cool, despite the banter and the time pressures!
On a personal note, I was delighted to be involved. Even when we are all having tough times, it’s rewarding to be able to give something back to society.
This programme will be screened sometime in the next month or so, so keep an eye out for On Call Carpets!
